About Dishing It Out

Dishing It Out, the Winston-Salem Journal's food blog, is the place to read about all things edible in the Triad. We'll talk about recipes, restaurants, eating out and eating in. Pull up a chair at the table and join us.

About the Authors

Laura Giovanelli works for the Journal's features desk. In addition to writing general feature stories, she covers restaurants, restaurant trends, the culture of eating out and the social ties that bring and bind us to the table. Her reviews appear roughly once every two weeks in relish, the Journal's entertainment magazine that is published each Thursday. While she loves Indian butter chicken and Thai som dtam, Mexican carnitas and stinky French cheeses, she is also on a lifelong mission to find good hamburgers and restaurants that serve summer tomatoes.

Michael Hastings, Journal Food EditorMichael Hastings has been the Journal's food editor since 2000. A former chef, Hastings grew up picking green beans, blueberries and cherries in his grandparents' garden, as well as hanging around his mother's and grandmother's restaurant.

When it comes to food, he believes in eating everything in moderation -- and he will eat just about anything.
