Calling All Tomatoes

It’s time again for the Journal’s annual tomato tasting.

It will be Aug. 1, starting bright and early at 7:30 at the farmers market at the Dixie Classic Fairgrounds.

Of course, before we can have the tasting, we need to get some tomatoes.

We are looking for farmers—pros, amateurs, backyard, patio, whatever—to donate a handful or two of ripe tomatoes. We’ll need to know ahead of time what variety you want to bring—and the more unusual the better. Though we still need representatives of the standards like Better Boy.

Any tomato growers out there, give me a call at 727-7394 or shoot me an e-mail at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).

And be sure to come down to the market on Aug. 1. The tasting is free, and Sweet Potatoes restaurant also will be making some tasty tomato dishes.
