More Cookies from the Fair

Here are the second- and third-place cookies in the baked category of the Kids Cookie Contest that took place Oct. 5 at the Dixie Classic Fair.

The first-place recipes in the baked and no-bake categories appeared in the Journal on Oct. 14 and are available in the Lifestyles/Food section of www.journalnow.com.

Kids Kookie Bars
Second place by Bonny Moran.

1/2 cup butter
1 14-ounce can sweetened condensed milk
1 3/4 cups crushed graham-cracker crumbs
2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
1 1/2 cups flaked coconut
1 cup chopped nuts
2 tablespoons Karo light corn syrup

1. Heat oven to 350 degrees. Melt butter in a 9-by13-inch pan.
2. Place crumbs over butter evenly to cover bottom of pan. Pour condensed milk over crumbs. Sprinkle with chocolate chips and coconut. Mix nuts and corn syrup and drop over the top. Press down with a fork.
3. Bake 25 to 30 minutes, or until lightly browned. Cool, then cut into bars. Store at room temperature.

Yummy Karo Baked Cookies
Third place by Lucy Ong.

1 cup sugar, plus more for cinnamon sugar
1/2 cup Karo corn syrup
2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon cinnamon, plus more for cinnamon sugar
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1/8 teaspoon salt
1 egg


1. Heat oven to 350 degrees.
2. Mix all ingredients in a bowl. Roll into small balls.
3. In a small bowl, combine some granulated sugar and cinnamon to taste. Roll balls in the cinnamon sugar and place on ungreased cookie sheets, pressing down slightly.
4. Bake 8 to 10 minutes.
