More Julia

Maybe it’s too flippant to say that Julia Child is back from the dead. But, boy, is she back on people’s minds and tongues since the Aug. 7 release of Julie & Julia, the movie based both on Child’s life and that of her real-life fan-blogger Julie Powell.
Sales of Mastering the Art of French Cooking are up, along with Julia’s Kitchen Wisdom—a neat little compendium of basic techniques and tips—and My Life in France, the memoir that Child co-wrote with Alex Prud’homme and that the movie used for inspiration. According to Random House, Mastering the Art of French Cooking was No. 1 on Amazon and B&N.com last weekend, and No. 3 among independent booksellers nationwide.
Another notable development:
PBS has posted a bunch of Child videos on its Web site. I’m talking thousands of hours of full-length programs. The site also has a place where people can share a “Julia story.”
If you never saw The French Chef in action, go to pbs.org/video and see what all the excitement was—and is—about.
The cast of the movie is getting its share of attention, too.
