Peeps! Breaking News…

“There’s something so wrong about a brown Peep,” a Journal editor said as she walked by an freshly-opened box of Peeps this afternoon (that’s one of them, above, on my desk).

Oh, she’s right. Yes, there is.

It’s coming up on spring, and that means Easter and Peeps, those sticky, sweet and slightly scary marshmallow candies. We get lots of odd things in our mailboxes from people wanting to hawk and promote things, usually books. Tim Clodfelter recently got How to Talk to Girls, which is basically love advice from a 9-year-old. Those usually get donated to the public library, by the way. But we can’t exactly donate Peeps.

So what do we do? We opened the box of Peeps. We worried about their vivid color (we got green as well as brown this time). And we tried them so you, the reader, knows whether or not this year’s Peep-a-licious flavor - chocolate mousse - is worth your time and coin.

The answer? No. NO. NO. NO. It tastes artificial - surprise! Kind of like Count Chocula sprayed down with more preservatives. For the record, Tim likes Count Chocula and thought the chocolate mousse Peeps were OK.

My opinion? Stick with (real) chocolate bunnies.
