Rising to the Top

I’m not much on reality TV shows, unless they involve food.

One of my favorites is Top Chef on Bravo.

Top Chef is now in Season 5, and as of Dec. 9 had already eliminated four chefs from the competition. Episode 5 will air Dec. 10 at 10 p.m.

I have not watched every episode of every season, but already this year I’m seeing a pattern.

In other words, if you pay close attention, you can see which chefs are likely to make it to the end.

Now, I might be totally off-base, but my hunch right away is that Ariane and Stefan will make it to the end. And if it goes like last season, the talented and sophisticated Stefan will falter with a dish that’s overly ambitious, just like the very talented Richard did last year.

That would mean the talented but more down-to-earth Ariane would win, not unlike the way Stephanie emerged in Season 4.

Fabio and Leah are the other top contenders in my book.

I haven’t seen enough to have a good grasp of the skills of all of the other contestants.

But if I had to guess I’d say that Melissa and Danny will be eliminated soon.
