Southern Hospitality at NBTF
The National Black Theatre Festival will welcome guests to Winston-Salem this week with a little more than the usual Southern hospitality.
On Thursday, Aug. 6, a special feast of Southern food will be offered at the Millennium Center on Fifth St. from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. to tie in with a showing of A Taste of the Blues, a Tony-award winning play.
The event will feature blues and jazz music by Tad Walters, Charles Burns, Keith Byrd and others.
Food will be provided by Noma, 6th and Vine, Mozelle’s, Finnegan’s Wake, Foothills Brewing and Dewey’s Bakery.
Foothills also will pour some of its beer, and N.C. wine will be provided by McRitchie Wine Co., Childress Vineyards Biltmore WInery and Cellar 4201 Vineyard.
A ticket package is being sold for $75, which includes the feast and a ticket to that night’s 8 p.m. showing of A Taste of the Blues, which will be at Reynolds Auditorium. (Too bad you have to drive to a separate location to see the play, especially after drinking.)
But a $50 ticket is also available for people who just want the food, beer, wine and music and don’t want to see the play.
Advance tickets are available at Dewey’s and Foothills. The $50 ticket will be available at the door of the Millennium Center.
Either type of ticket also can be bought by calling 831-1905.
