Triad Restaurant Week
Last spring I blogged about restaurant weeks in the Triangle, a week when pricier, swishier restaurants offered lower priced prix fixe menus.
Charlotte has one, too, and it turns out some restaurateurs are trying to organize one here in the Triad, too - or so Jim Noble’s (of Noble’s Grille) PR rep, Kendra Borowski, told me yesterday evening in an e-mail.
Like the Triangle’s, the Triad’s restaurant week will likely be in early May and once more details are worked out, such as what restaurants will participate, you’ll find information at http://www.triadrestaurantweek.com. The prix fixe meals will be $30. A preview of some of the restaurants that want to participate, according to Kendra: Meridian, Bistro Sofia, Print Works Bistro, Ombu, Sweet Potatoes, WS Prime, Milner’s, Sweet Basil’s, New Town Bistro, of course, Noble’s Grille.
Restaurant weeks in New York started off as a way for high-priced restaurants to get more patrons in the door. It’s a gimmick that often benefits the diner, though, too, because it makes expensive eats more accessible, particularly if you can go at lunch. With the economy in sad shape, it’s being extended through the winter. Now, it may be survival.
It’s worth looking into as a tourist, though. I went to Perry St. for lunch in New York last December, and while not part of Restaurant Week, believe me, a lunch prix fixe promotion was the only way this reporter could afford to eat there and pay cash. It was a lovely lunch - my husband had incredible arctic char sashimi, and I had some amazing salmon with truffle-laced mayonnaise and a clump of exotic mushrooms on the side. But I digress!
