Dan,glad you did not have to write that 0-16 story;we’ve already had too many records this year.Enjoyed both songs, the first one better; hope we’re not a “snowball headed for h*ll”, as Merle sings about & our nosedive may be over.McKie’s slam at 53-48 started the big rally & as went inside down the stretch,we had more success & just outshot UVA at the line.It was great to hear Joel rocking again, the team winning & as we go down the ACC stretch,I just hope we are competitive & if we lose, people keep their civility about it.Ty had his best game, coach saw he was producing & left him in.Staak’s ‘86 team went 0-14 in the ACC, 8-21 overall. At least in the ACC,this team has an ACC win.

Here we go! Finally the Duke gauntlet of invincibility has been thoroughly “run through” , on a stage of grandiose proportions , in convincing fashion! The Duke graduate who touted the superiority of their 2nd string is fair game 4 WFU B-Ball!!

First time I’ve been able to get to a game at the Joel since Chris Paul departed. I’m glad I was there. It was a good day. Even if Wake doesn’t get another ACC win this year (and I wouldn’t bet on that) I feel a whole lot better about the hire of coach B (with some help from your blog with some background I was unaware of). I also feel better about the makeup of the team. Yes, they are young and still missing a couple of key parts. They need to develop more toughness and play better team defense, as well as the confidence to attack the basket more aggressively (ex: McKie’s dunk and Clark’s finish in the final minutes) If we can get everybody healthy and keep’m there and recruit a strong inside presence I think we will see better days within the next 2-3 years.

Dan,
good riff,—does that make today “the morning after” by Maureen McGovern” your tune ? —- and shouldn’t someone have reminded us that is is always darkest before dawn? and fools rush in where angels ... , and please some one be our (sic) good luck charm.

Happy for Travis and the rest of the players.

See I tried to told ya’ll. If we score more points then the other team we win the game! Dan since we are all in a good mood today and the music willed us to a win. Dan with your music knowledge help me with this question is Carrie Underwood real? Or is she a commercial blown up made for t.v. barbie doll? (B. H. W. roll eyes now)

Great win! I believe Harris is right about the team maturing. Regardless of what happens at FSU, this team is getting better. And, Travis McKie was a man among boys out there!

Dan - I heard a lot of people saying that Coach B had lost this team after the Georgia Tech debacle. People who did not really understand the situation with all of the inexperience on this team or what Coach B’s ability really was were bashing everyone from the A.D. down to the water boy. But it appears that Georgia Tech was the low point that this young team had to hit before they started to rise. We all saw it in the Duke game, and we clearly saw it here. Wake was in a similar situation earlier in the year against Gonzaga (close game with five minutes to go) and blew it then. This time they clearly had their heads about them (especially C.J. Harris), and they took advantage of a tired Virginia team. Clearly there are going to be more growing pains ahead. But at least they will be growing pains and not groaning pains. I have to admit that I’m more optomistic now about the future of Wake Forest basketball than I was just eight days ago. Go Deacs!

From now on until further notice, listen only to “Don’t worry, be happy” prior to all games. I was so happy to see Ty play pretty darn good. Maybe this will be the spark he needs to get going. Maybe this will be the spark the whole team needs to get going. Tony C. didn’t play much. I hope he is not suffering a setback in his recovery. Lets hope and pray for Tuesday, that we will provide some competition for FSU and that Tony and Melvin continue to get healthy. Go Deacons!

Great piece. Loved the Merle (Haggard) song, and sorry to have missed Donna the Buffalo. Saw them at Merlefest a few years ago, and looking forward to seeing them and Sam Bush at Floydfest this summer.

Good call, Herr Collins! Patience is not necessarily what doctors call sick people! Even being on the road driving back from Chapel Hill, we could tell ... not ginning of the end…. the end of the beginning congrats Deacs and Coach B ..Well Done!

Dan, you are a flat-out good writer. It’s a pleasure to read your blog, where you can riff on different themes, structures, and phrases without the usual editorial and space limitations. Your writing brings me joy.
