First, as to the womens’ team, they are 12-13; they lost a double ot heartbreaker to Clemson, lost to ASU & Princeton, two games they should have & normally do beat. Win those 3, they’re 15-10;the ACC has 5 or 6 teams in the top 25, it’s a tough conference.I saw Wake blow out BC,then get blown out by UVA,but then we bounced back against Va.Tech on the road.We have been without our 3 point shooter Camille Collier due to an ACL & it has hurt us badly;one of our top players last year has had a sub par season this year & some games, we go wild on turnovers. We have made two straight NIT appearances, but it will be rough sledding to get to a 3rd straight post season play.
It is beyond sub human to suggest Coach Walter’s selfless sacrifice has anything to do with NCAA rules, it is inhumane. He saved Keith Jordan’s life.If saving a person’s life violates NCAA rules, the NCAA must be abolished. He was acknowledged at halftime of the Miami game tonight and I was honored and pleased to sign get well soon cards for Coach Walter and Keith Jordan that were available behind section 101. I hope everyone at Joel signed them.
Coach Walter’s sacrifice makes us look inside ourself and ask what kind of person we are: First, are we a giver, or are we a taker. Could we have made such a sacrifice to a person who is not a close family member? Do we have the human spark of goodness that he has to have done such a selfless act?
Unfortunately, whether I am right or wrong, I believe we live such closed lives, such self-centered, such self-seeking, me-first, selfish lives, only the incredily rarest of souls could have done this. I will not quote a percentage, as I believe it would be too infinitesmal to compute. But occasionally a person of raw courage and love of others will emerge and show up what it is to be human.

I am glad that someone had the sense to say there are higher powers in the universe than the NCAA. It is really sad that the compliance person had to even address such an issue.

Logic does not prevail everywhere. If so, Wake would have scheduled its girls team by now. Or at least scrimmaged with them each afternoon. An excellent learning experience, although perhaps not to go for morale even if they occasionally won a game or two.
