In reply to “DC” I’d like to say you’ve made some interesting and enlightening points regarding Ty. I’ve wondered why he has not gotten the floor time that I envisioned he would have when recruited out of Hew Hanover H.S. He was rated as the best high school player in the state (or close to it). I expected another superstar from Wilmington (i.e: Michael Jordan)to come to the scene. That’s what I get for believing the Star-News sports writers. Regardless of his playing time, or lack of, his reputation as a great kid with excellent guidance from his mother will make him a winner wherever he goes in life. It’s time now for Ty to show his stuff. I think he will. I’m a ‘66 NHHS grad that is obviously wishing the very best for this young gentleman and the Demon Deacons. I hope that Ty’s accomplishments will be the inspiration for other Wilmington kids to “keep their chin up” while looking up to Ty as an example of leadership, perserverance and making the right choices in life as they grow up, older and wiser. I wish only the very best for this young man and the entire Deacon team.

Frankly, I expect everyone on the team to have a team-first attitude. Anything less than that is unacceptable regardless of expectations from recruitment or the prior two seasons. On an individual level, I suppose it is great advice to tell Ty Walker to keep his chin up. But the bottom line is that if he always focuses on using his abilities for the betterment of the team, then he should be fine.
Heading into the season, I have two questions about Ty Walker that don’t pertain to his attitude.
First, has his body developed to the point where he actually does have the potential to contribute to the team? I mean, he should be commended for all the hard work he’s done so far, but he had a long way to go.
Second, if he actually is strong enough to hold his own on the low block, does he know it? So many big guys like to pretend to be guards and not actually use their bodies to their advantage. In light of the fact that Ty Walker did not dominate high school basketball with his height, I question whether he has developed the instincts necessary to contribute with both his height and muscle.

Three + years ago Skip Prosser apparently worked himself into exhaustion recruiting Walker, Woods and Aminu—-all 5-stars by most ratings. What do we have to show for it?
Walker owes it to himself and to Skip to keep his chin up and be the kind of player Skip envisioned he could be.
