Did some inquiring as to the College of Charleston, Wake scrimmage recently. One of the locals here said C OF C beat Wake by double digits but I have not confirmed. Jeff Goodman’s Blog reports the following which you may you may already be aware:
WAKE FOREST AT COLLEGE OF CHARLESTON
BEST PLAYER ON THE COURT: This wasn’t even up for debate. College of Charleston’s shooter Andrew Goudelock was the best player on the floor.
- Ari Stewart and C.J. Harris played well for a young Wake Forest team. Travis McKie and J.T. Terrell also had their moments – and Ty Walker has started to show glimpses of the promise that had him as a Top 50 player coming out of high school.

Dan,
How did Ty Walker look?
Thanks

Guilfordian, in order for a game to be considered an exhibition, you can’t play a D1 team. So it was either play a lesser opponent (D2 or D3) or not play at all. Also, you clearly don’t know the circumstances of the Presbyterian football game. It was either play Presbyterian or not play at all due to Tulane pulling out at the last minute. If you investigate further, you’ll find that those two games were aberrations, and we do not hesitate to put together difficult schedules in both basketball and football, especially in the former (#6 in the country this year per SI, despite it being a rebuilding year for us).

To Guilfordian,
Yeah whatever. Your beef is with your fine coach, Tom Palombo, and not Wake Forest. Nobody marched the Quakers into the Joel at gunpoint. These games are schedule all across the country. No need to go all Ivy League on us.

John,
I was the reporter. I was doing a feature on Reggie and asked him if he ever felt a bit, shall we say, self-conscious about putting it up every time he had it. He said `No, Coach told me the only way we win is if I shoot 30 times a game.’ I asked him what did his teammates think about that? “I don’t know,’’ Reggie said. “He didn’t tell them.’‘
There will never be another one like Bighouse.

I am ashamed of my alma mater for scheduling this game. It was unfair to a great group of real scholar athletes.
But Wake Forest people ought to be even more ashamed…a school that spends $40 million per year on athletics playing a school that spends $1.2 million.
I guess this is Wake policy, considering their football opener this year…buy a win whenever you can.

Hey Country,
The best story I heard about Reggie Gaines was House told him to shoot 30 times a game. And when a reporter asked Reggie what his teammates thought about that Reggie said: “They don’t know I’m supposed to shoot it that much, Coach just told me.” Funny stuff.

Thanks Dan—-great update for those of us who could not see it firsthand.
What about Ty Walker—alot has been said about his improvement—how did he look?

Wish I had known the Deacs were in Charleston scrimmaging C of C recently. I would have liked to sneak by to see…Saying that, info. from that tryst has been lacking and would like to learn more as C OF C is a more challenging opponent than Guilford. Any details????

Looks like we may be a little weak in the post offensively, but I was encouraged by the ball movement and overall speed of this team. However, as you alluded to Dan, no way yet to predict just how good or bad this team will be…but they will definitely be different from past WF teams.

Agree with your assessment, Dan. I wasn’t expecting much, but was rather pleased last night. How much of that was Guilford—only time will tell. But we can shoot the ball. I’m not sure last year’s team would have shot that well in an empty gym—at least from the perimeter. I thought we looked good. If we get Stewart and Chennault back here quickly, hopefully we can get to NYC for the Pre-Season NIT Final 4.
