John,
You mentioned Dick Anderson a WF assistant football coach. He came over to North Forsyth High School as a volunteer assistant since his son Bob was our QB. He was influential in our winning the 1971 4-A State football championship. He was a tremendous coach. He still resides in the Winston-Salem area. Hope you get to read this.

Ken your response brought back memories, especially Gil MacGregor. Another B-ball player back then was in my fraternity named Larry Harbeggar(sp).

John,
I, for one, remember Paul Long. I am a ‘79 alum but my dad is a 1950 alum. I attended many a ballgame as a child at the old “airplane hangar” in the ‘60s and early ‘70s before the home games were moved to Greensboro. Paul Long was a great player who never got the credit he deserved because the team record wasn’t that great in those days. Things picked up about ‘68 or ‘69 with the arrival of Norwood Todmann, CD and Gil McGregor.

Thanks for the info Dan, I am older than you and attended Wake in the late 60’s. I can remember a sign outside the arena saying “take a Long look at Wake”. Paul Long was the star of the team, a name I am sure no one probably remembers but me. I did play football & baseball at Wake but always wanted to be a basketball player. Dick Anderson(always wondered what happened to him)recruited me for football and our freshman team went undefeated, played baseball for Gene Stallings who later left Wake for FSU.

Alex,
Stewart signed in November. Coach Gaudio announced that both he and Harris had signed, and we had it in the Journal.

Dan, I noticed that Ari Stewart has not signed his letter of intent. should any thing be read into that? He committed several months ago.

Alex, I try not to be surprised by anything that happens, because it’s impossible to know everything about every situation. But this is what I do know.
Farouq wants to stay at Wake at least another season for two reasons. He wants to improve as a player and he wants to get closer to his degree. He’s a good student who comes from a family that puts great value in education. The coaches think he’s going to stay, and he told me he is going to stay. That’s why, sitting here on the morning of Tuesday, April 7, I think he’s going to stay. All that said, there could be considerations (financial for instance) that I’m not aware of that would prove to be decisive.
I did see the report on draftexpress.com, and noticed that it was attributed to unnamed sources. That doesn’t necessarily make it bogus, but it does raise the bar of credibility.

Dan,
Reports are coming out that Farouq will indeed declare for good despite what he apparently told you. Do you have any insight
