Next year’s class is 6’10 200, 6’8 215 and 6’8 225. We’re bigger than that NOW. Ty is 7’0 230 and Nikita is 6’8 220.

Just for the record Ty Walker and Carson Desrosiers have 2” and 20 lbs on John Henson and are the same size as the Plumlees and Ryan Kelly. Why aren’t they getting pushed around in the post?

The calvary ain’t coming and the longer we wait the further away they’ll be.

LOL at the BuzzOuters… I watch the same game, and I see a team with 2 ACC-End-of-the-Season-Honors talents in McKie and Harris… and thats it… Everyone else is bench material on another team.

The team, as talentless as it seems at times, is playing together, but no one on the team came in as a strong rebounder outside of McKie (Green was a rebounder but is way too undersized and rumored to be suffering from a mystery ailment which leads to fatigue and weight loss).  We will unfortunately need to wait for at least 2 years before next years class with its 3 PF/C sized players get here and get a chance to participate in order to see if there is a coaching change or not.  But the incessant whining about it is irrelevant and counterproductive… it only hurts the team when no one supports it.

Face it guys, no one is going to get much more out of this team.  The talent is not there, its another Stack level team or early Odom, or even late Prosser type team (Hopefully with some more consistency from Chennault I can stop seeing flashbacks of early Broderick Hicks and Shamaine Dukes).  But the team as it is, plays together… its just not very good…

The Deacon on 12/13/2011 (11:53 pm)

Maybe Dan’s taking exams with the Deacs this week.

Not a lot to be said about the Seton Hall game. Coach let a big man sit in the post and abuse us while he played 3 guards, a small forward and let 2 big men sit the entire game. Jeez we could have at least let the freshman hack the guy across the wrists a couple times. He didn’t shoot nearly as well from the line as he did from the floor.

The other team sat in a zone and pushed out on shooters because we don’t even attempt to have an inside presence.

JoeyD on 12/13/2011 (9:37 am)

why no report on the Seton Hall game? It has been over 2 days and no report.

beach deac on 12/12/2011 (6:45 pm)

DC,

Everything you mentioned happened on Bzdelik’s watch, not Gaudio’s.

Tony Woods had problems 4 months AFTER Gaudio was fired. He was also a Skip Prosser recruit.

Melvin Tabb was a high school senior when Gaudio was fired. Every single day of his academic life at Wake Forest belonged to Jeff Bzdelik, not Dino Gaudio. Remember Bzdelik rerecruited that entire class. The same could be said for JT Terrell.

Remember Dino Gaudio wasn’t the only one recruiting these kids. They were recruited by every major school in the country.

You never know if any of the above would have happened under Gaudio. It could have been worse, we just can’t say.

Kids are funny, they surprise you often. Often times the relationships they have with their coaches and the other adults they have in their lives will have great impact on the decisions they make, good and bad.

I don’t think Coach Bzdelik has what it takes to coach a kid with a strong personality. Championship teams are built around kids with strong personalities

Joey D on 12/10/2011 (11:57 am)

I, too, would rather see us lose with players of good character than win with players of poor character.  Sometimes the later can turn into the former, and I for one would certainly welcome them back.  But, until then, lets try to find young men who are of good character and who also are great ball players.  K finds them, W finds them, and I think and hope that Bz has found a few of them. Let’s support him as much as we can in this effort.

DannyB on 12/10/2011 (9:38 am)

The fact that it’s even conceivable that Tony Woods, Ari Stewart, and JT Terrell would still be on the team if Gaudio were still the coach is precisely why Gaudio was fired.  Tony Woods broke his girlfriend’s back for goodness sake!  And yeah, I don’t think it’s a stretch that a guy who was busted for robbery (after having been on academic probation) is not Wake Forest material.  Honestly, I’d rather watch Bzdelik’s team struggle than Gaudio’s team provide us with a few highlights before flaming out and further sullying Wake Forest’s reputation in the process.

DC on 12/10/2011 (12:38 am)

Rich,

How is this a Dino dominated team? It has exactly ONE player who ever played for Dino Gaudio. He’s pretty dog gone good by the way.

Truth is we don’t know how things would have happened with Dino still here. We may have had Tony Woods still. I’m almost positive we would have Ari Stewart and JT Terrell. We don’t know what would have been the relationship with Gaudio and Melvin Tabb (we just assume he’s a bad seed).

Now IF we had Dino’s kids, given the state of the ACC we’d be in the top 4 this year, probably with 20 wins, a top 25 ranking and a tournament birth….

Anybody see that this year? next year??

JoeyD on 12/09/2011 (4:36 pm)

Rich,

Other team ran a 3 guard set, with one guard at 5-10.  The starting guards had 13 rebounds.  The other team didn’t have a center and topped out at 6-8 at forward.  And they picked up 12 rebounds on O.

So, “come on man”.  If a coach talks about rebounding and his team can’t out-rebound a shorter, equally young team—well, either he ain’t coaching right, or they ain’t listening right.  Since his last four teams were equally poor rebounders, I’m thinking it’s the coach (or an inherent weakness in his system that makes for poor rebounding).

Tango on 12/08/2011 (10:54 pm)

DC, I would say that. It took a team to pull out that game, given the atmosphere and circumstances if not the overall strength of the opponent. And last year Wake was not a team, but an assemblage of players. This is not a great team and there are days (like against Richmond) it’s not even a good team. But it is a team.

Dan Collins on 12/08/2011 (5:59 pm)

Jim,
I asked Grobe if he thought that Harris might get back into the picture at running back by the bowl game, and he said he didn’t. I believe his thinking is that he needs to have players ready who he knows will be available, and stay available. But I’ll be watching that when practice starts on Saturday.

Dan Collins on 12/08/2011 (5:57 pm)

For those not paying attention, Dayton beat #16 Alabama last night by 12.  That’s the same Dayton team that the Deacs took down to the wire and nearly beat a couple of weeks ago.  The boys are CLEARLY improving.  As Andy said, anyone who doesn’t see improvement just doesn’t want to see it.  Give Coach B another year, and the Deacs will again be in the upper echelon of the ACC.

Matt on 12/08/2011 (4:38 pm)

Dan, on a side note, do you know what the status on Harris’s hamstring and ability to play?  We can certainly use him against MSU.

Jim on 12/08/2011 (4:21 pm)

Leave Bzzz alone. We should not let him have two seasons we should let him have at least 10 seasons. After all as long as Ron Wellman brings in money everyone is happy, right….well almost everyone, maybe the fans aren’t but they really don’t count. Who cares if we have empty seats at all of our home games. Who really cares. Should we think the basketball coach whose career winning average is .350 (I guess not) or his friend who picked him (Ron Wellman), I guess not. So just enjoy the ride. The Bzzz era has started at Wake. Excuse me while I throw up.

Craig Carter on 12/08/2011 (3:34 pm)

@ Tango - to use an ESPN line “come on man” - he doesnt have a true center or rebounder so how is it Bz’s sole issue - This is a Dino dominated team even thou some “whacks” have moved on - I like 33 but NO center - not sure Ty can help either with his lack of experience & past playing time -always so easy to go @ Buzz, always…

Rich on 12/08/2011 (1:11 pm)

We shoot 70% from the floor in the 2nd half, 60% from 3 point range for the game, 85% from the foul line and beat a 2-6 team from one of the weakest conferences in the country by 4???

We got outrebounded again. No Daniel Green, no post depth, I understand that. Outrebounded 21-2 on the offensive end? Come on now, We should be able to get 1 offensive rebound every 10 minutes by pure accident.

We just stole one from a podunk…

The day Wake Forest has to steal a game from High Point is the day everyone associtated with the basketball team should just resign.

JoeyD on 12/08/2011 (12:54 pm)

Dan,

Would you say this is a game that we would have lost last season?

DC on 12/08/2011 (11:52 am)

Great write up Dan! I had the good fortune of listening to Stan and Dinger while watching the online stream, and you captured the atmosphere perfectly. I don’t care if the name on the front of the jersey said “High Point” that team played terrifically well last night. I thought our guys played with great confidence, grit, and determination and I’m very happy for them. A Wake fan who can’t see improvement in this team, improvement that is more than just our guys being a year older, doesn’t want to see it. I know Buzz isn’t a fan friendly coach, but I think he can coach, and we’ll begin to see positive results when next year’s recruiting class takes the floor.

Andy on 12/08/2011 (11:32 am)

Thanks Dan.  You give us a real feel for what it must have been like.  The Deacs are maturing and getting better.  Let’s just hope they carry that intensity up to South Orange for the game with Seton Hall!

Jim on 12/08/2011 (9:52 am)

We barely beat a team that’s not in the top 250 teams in the country—250, not top 25. And we got outrebounded again despite Bzdelik’s supposed emphasis and teaching of rebounding.

This is the state of Wake Forest basketball under Bz.  Can we please fire him before we start getting crushed by more talented teams?
