You know, regardless of all this talk about how “big” FSU was, size wouldn’t matter so much if we could hit some shots.  I’m not sure where our 3-point shooting has gone, but if we’re gonna be a small team, we’ve got to find ways to score from the outside.  Duke plays a ton of 3 guard sets and they light it up like always.  We play a 3-guard set and are throwing up plain ole bricks.  Sure with Randolph Childress and Rusty were back on the floor.

Dano on 01/28/2012 (12:02 am)

d23,

He didn’t just “run into” Bernard James, who happens to be a 26 yr old Air Force veteran probably built tougher than anything the NBA has to offer. He got run into, hit the floor relatively hard and then got stepped on. It was a very phsical play.

Up until that point ‘little’ Ty was more than holding his own. 4 blocks, 2 goal tends and 4 rebounds with at least 2 altered shots and couple changed decisions in 15 min is borderline dominant.

JoeyD on 01/27/2012 (10:55 am)

Florida State made us look little? We are little! Even Ty is little. Maybe not vertically but there isn’t much mass or muscle there. Someone said in an earlier post that they expect to see him in the NBA next year….if he got a concussion “bumping into” Bernard James, I don’t even want to think about the results of a similar encounter with Dwight Howard….(we are talking rescue squad and chaplain).

Having said that we desparately need him underneath on defense…..he isn’t always tough to beat one on one but his off side help (blocks) can create major disruptions/ paranoia and make up for a lot of mistakes on defense out front. He is not the true “Big” that everybody would like to have but even with his limitations his role is critical for Wake to be competitive this year given the overall skill level/ lack of quikness on defense.

With or without Ty when Travis has an off night scoring it is going to be hard for us to beat anyone. We need Ty (I too never thought I would say that), Travis and C.J on the court bringing their best to have a shot.

Deacon23 on 01/26/2012 (3:52 pm)

Hey Chris,
I asked about that last night and was told there was no rule against Ty playing at Clemson. I’m going to verify that when I head over the practice here in a bit. I’ll write something live about his condition and prospects for Clemson.

Dan Collins on 01/26/2012 (2:18 pm)

Dan—
They mentioned last night on TV that Ty would have to sit out on Saturday due to the concussion.  They were implying that it is an automatic sit-out of the following game once diagnosed.  Is that accurate?

Chris on 01/26/2012 (1:52 pm)

That ” difficult” note Ms. Lovato hits at the end of that song . WOW!..I think the truth is they did play great but Florida St. phyically beat them down..Where’s the beef!

Sarah on 01/26/2012 (1:44 pm)

Man Florida St. made us look little!!!

Any questions about Carson Desrosiers at 5 and Travis McKie at 4 were answered loud and clear last night. Against good competition they are horribly horribly overmatched. That was our problem last season when Coach B benched Ty and Ari in favor of Clark and Desrosiers.

Nothing Coach could do about last night. Once Walker went down his hands were tied. Up until that point, we had the physical advantge at least on the defensive end of the court.

JoeyD on 01/26/2012 (1:33 pm)

CC, What I’m picking up on Fields is that the coaches feel he doesn’t believe in himself at this point in his career and that, as a result, his confidence in himself is not what it needs to be. Coaches really don’t like to see that, which is one reason Ty Walker has been on the bench so much of his career.

“Skyscraper”

[Verse 1:]
Skies are crying, I am watching
Catching tear drops in my hands
Only silence as it’s ending
Like we never had a chance
Do you have to make me feel like
There’s nothing left of me?

[Chorus:]
You can take everything I have
You can break everything I am
Like I’m made of glass
Like I’m made of paper
Go on and try to tear me down
I will be rising from the ground
Like a skyscraper
Like a skyscraper

[Verse 2:]
As the smoke clears, I awaken
And untangle you from me
Would it make you feel better
To watch me while I bleed?
All my windows still are broken
But I’m standing on my feet

[Chorus:]
You can take everything I have
You can break everything I am
Like I’m made of glass
Like I’m made of paper
Go on and try to tear me down
I will be rising from the ground
Like a skyscraper
Like a skyscraper

[Bridge:]
Go run, run, run
I’m gonna stay right here,
Watch you disappear
Yeah, oh
Go run, run, run
Yeah, it’s a long way down
But I am closer to the clouds up here

[Chorus:]
You can take everything I have
You can break everything I am
Like I’m made of glass
Like I’m made of paper
Oh Oh
Go on and try to tear me down
I will be rising from the ground
Like a skyscraper
Like a skyscraper

(Like a skyscraper)

Like a skyscraper
Like a skyscraper

Demi Lovato dedicated to Wake Basketball on 01/26/2012 (11:41 am)

Seven words I never thought would come out of my mouth: Wake really missed Ty Walker last night. And another seven words I never thought would come out of my mouth: I hope Ty Walker is available Saturday.

THESE are the times that try fan’s souls. The day of victories and rankings seem to be over.  Bad coaching, like hell, is not easily conquered; yet we have this consolation with us, that the harder it is for the administration and the AD to understand that we need a new coach the more glorious the triumph will be when it finally happens. The AD and the administration at Wake feel like that have their own mandate to change the so called bad culture at Wake by forcing down the fan’s throats bad coaching and recruiting. They have declared that it is their right to do so. The only tools that fans and students have left is to disagree with this philosophy through their voices, their written word, and by holding their financial support. I am sure that the coach, AD, and the Wake Administration are very good people who are very dedicated to the highest academic standards for this school, I am just as sure that their efforts in finding the right coach lack far behind the academic achievements of this university.

Craig Carter on 01/26/2012 (10:37 am)

If I were coach Grobe, Buzz and Walter I would scour the country for every kid named Nikita…man they hustle.

Doug on 01/26/2012 (10:29 am)

I personally can’t see much fault with the team’s efforts last night.  It was pretty obvious to me that they were bigger and stronger.  I felt sorry for Carson. They simply ate him for lunch.  Might have been closer if some of those threes launched by McKie had gone in, but man, those were really bad misses.
I still think we’re going to at least split with Clemson and GT and beat BC at home.  To bad we don’t get Md. and Miami at home, but we have a shot at those two games on the road.

Jim on 01/26/2012 (10:19 am)

Compare the two coaches last night..one with passion, the other the complete opposite.  With .6 seconds in first half, we have ball…while officals met to decide time on clock, FSU coach was COACHING his team in a huddle.  Our great coach was looking at a piece of paper while the players stood around on the court.  I suppose we have no need to practice what to do in a game situation with less than a second on the clock as all we did is toss the ball in and walk off the court.  Bet Coach K never let a teaching/coaching opportunity like that die on the court.

Robinson on 01/26/2012 (7:49 am)

Does anyone know about the status of Anthony Fields? Is he injured, or did Buzz just decide to sit him down for the rest of the year? Noticed that he hasn’t seen playin time in quite a while. Even the walk-ons have been coming in before him. Would just like to know.

CC on 01/26/2012 (5:45 am)

I have to say,  the last few games (except State), I see their confidence growing.  Had walker not been hurt, we could have had a much closer game, if not won.  I think they are a better team when walker is in.  Our guards play tighter defense on the perimeter, perhaps knowing they won’t drive the lane for fear of the block.

I felt a bit of the old energy that use to fill LJVM.  We came out strong, but grew tired after FS physical play.  I wish Carson would challenge more shots, but I think part of that is fear of fouling out and limited depth.

I wish someone would update the wake twitter or Facebook page with info about injuries during games, or at least announce to those of us who continue to support the deals by attending games in person.  No offense to folks who can’t make it to the games, I understand that!  It took me texting a friend who was watching from home to find out what happened to Walker and why he was missing in the second half, and finally got an answer about 5 minutes left in the game.  I “could” bring in a small radio, but if I did that, I might as well stay at home and watch or listen to the game.  Maybe work in the announcement in between the 7 advertisements during the timeouts at least!
