Wellman must have sold all the unclaimed tickets the Wake fans didn’t purchase to Carolina fans. It was humiliating to see the Wake fans outnumbered 2-1 on our own court. It will take a real coach and a real team to bring them back. I’m gald Dino is gone, but BZZZZZ, REALLY?

My heart truly aches today. From the days of Danny Young and Kenny Green and Gene Overby never have we experienced what we did last night. Our home court turned Carolina Blue and our fans were drowned by the noise they made. Carolina fans mocked our place saying “Man it is tough playing in this place”. Not long ago I would have went right back at them, but I sat kept my mouth shut and took it.
Ron Welmen was standing behind you Dan and talking to Eric Montross and other media elite as though he was expecting and preparing for another epic battle between old rivals. As I walked by him I wanted so badly to ask him the questions that most media refuse or are scared to ask but didn’t for fear of getting thrown out. For example, honestly please describe in detail your justifications for hiring this particular coach? I still after two years have not reconciled this in my own mind. After enduring once again the anguish of another poor representation of who and what we are maybe that wouldn’t have been a bad choice. Skip Prosser, Dave Odom, Carl Tacy and Bones McKinney would have been disapointed not with the players, but with the staff that prepared them.
In my eyes from my perspective and experience in this league our players continuously repeat the same mistakes. From positioning, rebounding, passing, dribbling and defensive breakdowns. Roy Williams out coached Buzz last night like he was a high school coach by his decisions while the game was in progress. It appeared we had a game plan and we were going to stick with it (offensively) come hell or high water. Repeatedly we waited until the shot clock ran down to 8-9 seconds then it was one on one, result….25% shooting. Obviously you shut down Travis and C.J. you shut down our offense. However…a good coach diagrams offensive plays to get those players open. Coming out of a critical official time out we appeared to diagram a play for Walker who was just pitiful last night. Somehow he dribbles it off his leg, and why repeatedly he puts the ball on the floor instead of going up is beyond me. I did not see one play specifically diagramed for Travis.
Yes..we have talent, no…not the talent of NC or Duke or Florida State but enough that we should be better than where we are. Players play and Coaches Coach. Any program you watch is a direct reflection upon the Coaches philosophies and skills. Good Coaches make mediocre players better and good players great because they mold their players into the dynamics of the coach. I have heard….we are better than we were last year…well come on wouldnt you expect to be better just by virtue of players obtaining more experience and new players. We are a little better because of Chase, It’s simply common sense, however Buzz has had 2 years now.
There is no one on our staff other than Jeff Battle that has won anything of significance. I have said numerous times here Buzz’s record at Denver, then Air Force and Colorado is proof that he is simply not the bill of goods sold to our community. He has yet to win consistantly at any of them, and where are the programs today. None of them are a factor in their respective conferences which negates the assumption that he is a program builder.
Dan thanks for allowing us Fans and Alumni to vent our frustrations here. I sence you’re frustrations and disapointment in your articles as well. I can tell you I am amoung the many of alumni that are near the end of accepting mediocre performances when the Univeristy expects above average contributions to keep the programs/scholarships going, so why shoud the same standards not be applied to the Athletic Department and those who lead it?
Come on fans, use your phones, you tweets, your face book and start a ground swell that we are tired of being the door mat for every school in the conference.

I have been a life time WF fan, saying that it hurts me to say Buzz is running this program in the dirt. Ron and Buzz both need to go, WF is not improving why keep a coach that has a history of loosing. And except him to rebuild a team in the ACC? You cant tell me that Roy Williams and coach K dont laugh when there going to play WF under Buzz.No way will Buzz ever have a team to compete with those teams..

WFNZ in Charlotte today interviewed Mike Gminski of CBS Sports. He stated that under no circumstances is Jeff Bzdelik’s job at Wake in jeopardy this year because Ron Wellman is backing his choice 100%. Again, it is time for Ron Wellman to come out and tell all of the Wake Fans that Wake Forest supports Jeff Bzdelik 100% in his efforts from last year and this year. Again, if this man is the future of Wake basketball no matter what our record is Ron Wellman needs to make it crystal clear that Wake Fans must expect Jeff Bzdelik back at Wake next year no matter what happens the rest of the season. If Ron Wellman is man enough to hire a coach who has a lifetime winning record of .350 then he needs to continue to make sure that all Wake fans understand the future of Wake Basketball is in the hands of this coach no matter how many points we lose by or who we lose to.

Jim - Points well taken but sooner or later I may try it to see if it can work - Tony C has no shot and personally I am tired of him dribbling down under with no where to go - He has the right idea but just gets himself in bad spots - GO DEACs !

I think that Fischer handles the ball well for a shooting guard, especially a freshman.  In similar manner, I think that CJ Harris makes some good decisions with the ball when he’s playing the two as well.  As CJ nobley demonstrated last year, he is not a point guard.  And neither is Chase Fischer.  I think that moving him to the point would be a mistake both with respect to the team’s immediate prospects as well as Fischer’s future development as a shooting guard.

Tony Channault certainly has his shortcomings (poor outside shot, lacking of straight-line speed, etc.), which he hopefully will overcome during his career.  But sometimes he is forced into ugly plays because the offense has failed and the point guard (whoever it is) needs to try to bail it out.  I don’t think either Fischer or Harris would be able to a better job than Channault.  He is one of the players who continues to improve game by game, and I have been impressed with him this year.

I understand where you’re coming from Rich.  I’m not sure Chase has the foot speed and quickness to play PG.  Good quickness can compensate for a lot of things.  Think of Ish, who could recover from a mistake pretty quickly.  Then there is the PG from Duke that led them to their last NC (starts with an S).  He wasn’t very quick, but boy did he have the saavy to run the point…not sure that Chase is quite there yet.
I’ll be there tonight.  I really hope that the WF fans who are not going, tear their tickets up rather than sell them to Carolina fans.

Jim on 01/31/2012 (3:28 pm)

I have noticed that Chase is a good ball handler - Tony C to me gets lost out there, drives and gets stuck and just doesn’t shoot well at all - I would like to see how Chase runs the point with CJ as the 2 - Thoughts ?

Dan wrote that blog from his true life experience. He spent his freshman year marveling at the invention of the microwave.
