My apologies to you Joey D.

“I like JT but from the onset he would shoot with 3 people on him, is that what you want?”

That is exactly what I want. I want a coldblooded shooting guard that shoots without a conscience, one who believes any shot is a good shot and always believes the next one is going in. Jeff Teague, Justin Gray and Randolph Childress would be examples to follow.

In college hoops you have approximately 80 possessions a game. I want 20 of them ending in JT Terrell’s hands. Let the law of averages take over from there. If he shoots 33% from 3, 40% overall and 80% from the line, that’s 18-24pts a night. I’ll take it every day.

Joey D on 03/14/2011 (10:20 am)

Ferd,

Your comment is above your name, not below. It is Lee Jackson who wants better seats for the trainwreck…

Don’t accuse me of such thinking. Only front row seats I want involving Wake Forest right now is for the execution (firing) of the supposed coach.

I can’t bare to watch what’s being called basketball at Wake Forest right now.

Joey D on 03/13/2011 (8:03 pm)

The only reason we won’t be a mid-level team next year is that we have a coach who is terrible at coaching and terrible at recruiting. As long as that does not change, you are right, we are years away. As long as we have this coach, the best we can hope for is a slow rise to mediocrity.

gt on 03/13/2011 (3:44 pm)

Mike W. - thanks for the Katz quote.  Of all the things said about this team, the one thing I think we all know that is true no matter if Bzdelik stays or goes, if Ron Wellman stays or goes, and/or if any/all of the players stay or go - as Andy Katz said, “Wake Forest is years away from being a mid-level ACC team.”  What a complete and utter disaster.  The longsuffering of Demon Deacon fans seems to be neverending.

Matt on 03/13/2011 (2:35 pm)

Quote from ESPNs Andy Katz:

“Who made a worse decision? Jeff Bzdelik leaving an NCAA-bound Colorado to go to last-place Wake Forest or Oliver Purnell leaving NCAA-bound Clemson to go to last-place DePaul? My vote goes for Bzdelik since Purnell got more of a golden parachute. Multiple ACC sources are convinced that Wake Forest is years away from being a mid-level ACC team, so it wouldn’t come as a huge surprise if Bzdelik ends up returning to the NBA as an assistant.”

Enough said.

MikeW on 03/13/2011 (9:22 am)

Joeyd, why would you want your ranking in the DC to rise, when your team has sunk to despair? Surely it isn’t just to get a better seat at home games? You should have been able to get in one of the recliners at courtside by the end. Not too many people wanted to keep seeing the same trainwreck that was Wake basketball this year, myself included. If “engineer” Beezeldick is at the stick next year, expect more of the same. You can have my spot Joey, and enjoy. I didn’t subject myself to the punishment this year, and I will not next yeat either. I still love Wake, but I can’t stand by and watch us slide any more. My calls to Mr. Wellman have gone un-answered. So the only way that I can be heard at Wake is by NOT spending my money for basketball tickets. I suspect many more have figured out the same. Good luck joey, I hope you get courtside tickets next year. I don’t think you will have much competition.

Ferd Fisher on 03/13/2011 (8:10 am)

Wake fans have heard enough excuses this year. Time is now for Wellman to admit his screw-up, fire Beezeldick, and resign as AD. If that doesn’t happen, Mr. Hatch should step in to make it happen. The empty seats at the Joel speak louder than I can. Please Mr. Hatch, try to restore a bit of dignity in the basketball, as well as the A.D.“s office.

Right on LEE ! ! - And Mr GT - if your man was Dino wouldnt he been on the sidelines somewhere already instead of being buried on ESPN U??....Players get no blame??? - And Joey I assume you reference putting the shackles on JT & not letting him shoot - I like JT but from the onset he would shoot with 3 people on him, is that what you want??....Barnes has a ton of talent & plays the game as it comes to him, sure he forces some but many of his shots are good shots - I am no quitter - I made 17 home games this year & will continue to & my donation stays win or lose unlike some of these folks - I just thinks its way to early to put the coach under the bus like you guys are doing - they are young - hopefully they mature & improve greatly next year -& I stand by my comment - what coach could get more out of this bunch?? -Andno wayI was disrespecting JW - Enjoy the game today !

rich on 03/13/2011 (7:30 am)

Rich, Rich, Rich.  Yeah, let’s end the season by blaming the players for what is probably the worst coaching performance in ACC history. And why are you insulting John Wooden?

gt on 03/12/2011 (11:00 pm)

This is my final thought of the year.

When I was at Wake Forest in the early 90s, I was a Screamin Demon. It didn’t matter who the opponent was, we were required to attend. As a result, I saw a lot of really BAD basketball. I saw some garbage that represented itself as a college basketball team.

I attended Thursday, first live game I’ve seen since last year’s tourney. TV does not do this team justice.

In 25 years of watching basketball, this is the worst college basketball team I have ever seen. I was amazed at how bad they are (and this is after watching them on TV all season). Players on their own, D-1 players, top 150 recruited players at that, could not possibly be that bad.

They have been coached to be that bad. Their instincts are completely gone. The instinct to drive has been replaced by the thought of pause. The instinct to shoot has been replaced by the thought of finding a pass. It was disgusting to see how poorly they had been trained.

As for the age thing…

I watched a Freshman score 40 today. I watched that same Freshman carry his team for 2 days in a row. Back in November, I had 2 freshman as good as he and his running mate. Now I have none.

Tommorrow, I will watch a team starting 2 Fr, 2 So and a Jr (the exact same starting 5 we had at the beginning of the season) play for the ACC title, already having won the regular season.

This coach needs a job at a gas station. He doesn’t need to be allowed to coach a college kid ever again. How he ever got a job at a real college I’ll never know.

Joey D on 03/12/2011 (6:27 pm)

If you are only willing to give money to the Deacon Club when times are good or when the powers that be do what you tell them to do then I say take your money and ________ it. Get out of the Deacon Club and help my ranking rise… I’ll be happy to get your former seats… of course most of the ones on here talking about not giving are the ones who think their $125 makes a difference in the program. Grow up… you’re either in for the long haul and through the tough times or we don’t need you… I bet Tony C who claims to be meeting with the AD and coaches on this blog never graduated from WFU and hasn’t given more than lip service to making a real donation.

Lee Jackson on 03/12/2011 (6:12 pm)

Guys - Guys - Guys - get a grip PLEASE - Bz isnt going anywhere - John Wooden couldnt have done much more with this unit - give it time - NEXT subject please :)

Rich on 03/12/2011 (5:40 pm)

How a great team deals with adversity is TWICE as important as how it deals with success!!

hootie on 03/12/2011 (3:37 am)

Now that the season is over, a lot more people are talking about reducing or stopping their DC contributions.  On this blog, for the last couple of months people have been saying that Wake does not have the money to buy out Bz’s contract.  We may be about to find out.

If the school has money, then the AD will be able to thumb his nose at the huge loss of revenue.  If they do not have money, he will have to fire Bzdelik to try and restore the lost contributions and ticket sales.  And he might want to do that sooner rather than later, before those formerly regular contributions find a permanent home somewhere else.

Of course the other side of that is, if you don’t have money, how do you buy out Bz’s contract to restore the revenue stream?  Maybe some causes are easier to raise money for than others…

gt on 03/11/2011 (11:26 pm)

Bz told Lennox that he was going recruiting after the game yesterday. Hopefully he only had a ONE WAY ticket.

DT on 03/11/2011 (10:37 pm)

Despite the fact this has to be one of the worst seasons ever for both Wake Forest football and Wake football, I have enjoyed discovering the blog this year as we discuss the affairs of the Deacs.  I have bookmarked it on my computer and I do check it out and I think we all appreciate the job that Dan does in keeping us informed.

Now, to the subject at hand…I noticed that Xavier was ranked when I was watching the sports ticker earlier.  This is the Xavier, that is coached by former Wake assistant Chris Mack.  It seems that someone besides Colorado is enjoying some success.  I am sure that Xavier did not lose to the some of the teams we lost to this year.  You almost have to wonder how long he will be there—I know he graduated from there so that may keep him longer than usual, but anyway…

As a Wake fan and a Wake graduate (I attended back when we won two ACC Championships—those really were the days), I was horrified to see us lose the games we lost this year.  As the peanut gallery has mentioned, we did not improve as the year progressed….Just last like year, we lost again in the first round of the ACC Tournament.

I would like to hear the peanut gallery’s opinion of what is a reasonable expectation for the team next year in wins and losses, including the new recruits.

I hate to say it, but I have give Roy Williams credit for going out and getting top notch talent after their season last year.  The Heels would not be where they are at without Harrison Barnes and especially Kendall Marshall.  It is going to be tough for us to compete getting players who are top 200 when Carolina and/or Duke get top 10 players.

Just my thoughts….....

Quentin on 03/11/2011 (10:36 pm)

I am convinced Wake basketball cannot begin to heal until the cause of the dis-ease is removed. The talent at Wake was a bit sub par this year, but nothing like the results. An idea about how to play team defense would be a start. As fans, we must make it known that Bzdelick will never be accepted. It would be in everyones best interest if he found a job as an assistant coach in the NBA. I believe this suits his talents better. If he does not or Wellman does not do the right thing, we should withhold our material support until Wellman is either removed or does the right thing and sends Bzdelick on his way.

Ken Nowell on 03/11/2011 (6:24 pm)

Here is what it takes to get hired and keep a job as head basketball coach at WFU: Career NBA 192 games 73 wins 119 loses .380 %W-L Carrer College: 2005-2006 Air Force 24-7 12-4 2nd NCAA First Round 2006-2007 Air Force 26-9 10-6 3rd (tied) NIT Final Four Colorado (Big 12) (2007–2010) 2007-2008 Colorado 12-20 3-13 12th 2008-2009 Colorado 9-22 1-15 12th 2009-2010 Colorado 15-16 6-10 8th Wake Forest (Atlantic Coast Conference) (2010–present) 2010-2011 Wake Forest 8-24 1-15 12th Total: 119-129 (.480-college winning percentage) Lowlights of the first season at WFU: lost to Stetson, lost to VCU, lost to UNC-Wilmington, lost to Presbyterian, lost to Ga. Tech - 74-39, finished last in the ACC. Accomplishments in the first year as Wake’s Coach: beat UVA who did not have their star player in action. As I have stated before there is not one school in the ACC that would have hired him with that record or keep him with what he did this year, except for Ron Wellman, oh I’m sorry Wake Forest.
Please someone in the administration at Wake come to their senses and overrule Ron Wellman.

Craig Carter on 03/11/2011 (3:23 pm)

Dan, I cannot believe you asked a player - out of the blue - if he were going to transfer, unless you had good information that he was thinking about transferring. You have never done this in the past! What do you know?
