It looks like Tuesday may be a good chance to see where we are with Iowa coming to town. At 2-3 they aren’t great but they are from a major conference and it’s a home game. Normally this is the kind of game you have to win if you are thinking about March (given the bad losses that’s probably not realistic even if Tony Chennault gets back on the court reasonably soon and winds up being the second coming of Chris Paul).
I am not even necessarily looking for a win but just want to see if we can compete….focus on defensive intensity communication, blocking out on the the boards, looking after the ball, patience and purpose on offense, composure when things go south as they will sometime during the game (as opposed to focusing on the things that get you on ESPNs top 10 hightlights)......focus on those things and my guess is that we’ll wind up with more points than the Hawkeyes.
Not very sexy in this age of the highlight reel mentality but as a reasonably successful Wake baseball coach used to say many years ago..if you executve the routine plays in the routine way every time you are going to wind up with a lot more Ws than Ls…...again as I noted in an earlier post just look at Duke.
I agree with you Danny C that Coach K has a rep for being profane and a ref (and at times an opponent) baiter ( I call him R-face too)....but game n game out, and season in season out his teams bring intensity, passion, focus, attention to detail, composure and an understanding of the fundamentals of the game to the court.
Frankly those are the tings that strike me first about Duke way before you get to talent (I think that is what really gets to most of us not the AmEx commericals).

It was a good game for Walker, against a very bad team. He still has a long way to go to be able to hang with the big dogs, when the ACC schedule starts. I do think the DEACS will get better as the season goes along, if they don’t start getting shellacked like the football team. Coach Bzdelik has got a job in front of him.

Dan, I see you;re one of the naysayers when it comes to Ty. The kid had a great game. There is no need to point out all the things he can’t do. He’s having an opportunity to develop and he’s taking advantage of it. More than likely, the kid will make it to the next level, because he’s got something no one can teach and that’s size. Let’s not forget that Dino and crew we’re never known to develop big men. Eric Williams came in as a McDonalds all American and never develop that separated the good big men from the rest. This team will get better. It will take time, but it will. As long as we;re playing our best basketball in March and not in December, then we’re good.

As Coach knows, one game does not a season make. Yeah, we were better last night and I hope it continues but tough ACC times lay ahead.
I don’t blame Buzz for this season. I think Dino left the cupboard almost bare and then with the Woods episode, we were hurt that much more! I’m more than willing to give Buzz a couple more years to show us what he can do.

To dlb27104, Thanks for the editing tip. Stupid mistakes like that are the risk I run writing at 12:30 a.m. after a long day. I appreciate the catch.

Dan, it’s “prophet” not “profit.” :=)
