A Close Shave Gaudio Wouldn’t Mind
Just where does Coach Dino Gaudio of Wake Forest get off, showing up in public with a beard?
The assembled media ribbed Gaudio a bit today at the ACC Tournament for his heavy 5 o’clock shadow. For the record, the time was around 2:45.
Gaudio joked that it might have to do with his Italian blood. He even said he wants to look like the Wake Forest beat guy for the Winston-Salem Journal, but we all know his wife, Maureen, is having nothing to do with that.
“I actually shaved this morning,’’ Gaudio said, in jest. “But hopefully I’ll have to shave a couple of times in a couple of days here.’‘

Wake Forest athletic administrators should always
understand and appreciate what a loyal (if small)
and special core of supporters they have for their
major programs. Their patience if “unrivaled by any.”
But. Enough. Have you not seen enough Ron Wellman?
How many times can you allow this pattern to repeat before
your arena is empty, and your reputation as a contender is lost? Memories are short with the young people these days.
As an alum, I feel not an ounce of confidence in the baskeball future. Worse, I feel not an ounce of pride.
Take the past year in football for example. Their record at 5-7 was lower than expectations, but a loyal fan could point with pride to the mostly consistant effort, and the fact that the team contended against most all top ranked opponents.
I can’t say that about the basketball program. The body langauge, right now, in the last minute of this latest ACC tournament disgrace, tells me I’m right.
Your fund raisers in the months ahea wil confirm it.
