Another Rough Night in Alexander
Wake Forest couldn’t beat Georgia Tech in Alexander Coliseum when the Yellow Jackets had some of their worst teams since the lost years of Dwane Morrison.
So it stands to reason the Deacons couldn’t win at Tech now that Tech is good.
And the Yellow Jackets, tonight, were very good on the way to their sixth straight home victory over the Deacons, dating back to Chris Paul’s freshman season of 2003-04. Most of the the games—like the two-pointer last year and the overtime game the year before—were at least close. Tonight the Yellow Jackets took charge early in the second half and cruised to a 79-58 win.
The brawny Tech front-line of Gani Lawal, Derrick Favors and Zachery Peacock dominated the Deacons inside, and when that happens somebody has to hit a jumper. Nobody for the Deacons could, and as a result, they lost and looked bad doing it. Ari Stewart looked over-revved in his homecoming and C.J. Harris never found his range. So again, the freshmen played like freshmen.
Frustration boiled over when Al-Farouq Aminu picked up his fourth foul with 11:40 driving 15 feet straight into a stationary traget. But the Deacons already trailed 54-37 and showed little signs of a comeback.
The only two positives for Wake were that a) they flew down yesterday, and thus won’t have to endure another long bus trip back up I-85, and b) they have until Tuesday’s home game against Miami to purge this effort from their system.
