Another Side of Mark Moroz
Mark Moroz, an All-ACC tackle for Wake Forest in 2002, somehow survived the rigors of trench warfare in college football with no permanent damage to his fingers. Good thing too, because tonight Moroz will put all 10 digits to use playing guitar and keyboards.
Moroz, who for the past two seasons has been the head football coach at Forsyth Country Day, is an accomplished musician who has been playing semi-regularly with some good friends. They’ve put together a band, and for a few months now have been threatening to play at our Open Mic at the Garage, located at 7th and Trade downtown. Tonight, barring some unforeseen development over the next six hours, the band is going to make good on that threat.
Moroz said the band is called Am-Can, because two of the members (including Moroz) are Canadian and two are American. He says they’ve got a killer version of Come Sail Away by Styx worked up, which I can’t wait to hear.
Showtime for Am-Can is 10:15 I really shouldn’t go because I’m off early tomorrow down to Atlanta for the Wake Forest-Georgia Tech basketball game. But how could I miss such a momentous occasion?
Truth is, I can’t, and you shouldn’t either.

Siff, Mark the the guys knocked it out of the park, dead center, and the ball’s still sailing. Opened with Pink Floyd, closed with Stairway to Heaven, all good in between. They were all nervous as all get out, in that it was their first show, but they really pulled it off. With the right representation, they could get plenty of bookings. Maybe WF will have them play before football games, if Mark’s schedule as coach at FCD would allow it. Keep an eye out, and if you get a chance to see them, do yourself a favor and take advantage of it.

Sorry I won’t be there for that one. Mark is a good guy. Hope they rock the joint. And hopefully I’ll see you tomorrow at The Varsity before the game. . .not sure I can take those chili dogs after the game. . . I’m too old.
