Al,
I talked with Dino about Ty Walker on Thursday and included his comments in a post I did for the blog yesterday. Check it out. If you have any other questions, just let me know.

I have been curious about the development of Ty Walker.  I know very little about the details of his career to this point but wondered if you saw him as a major contributor somewhere down the road?

Jim, I believe the pertinent question when it come to a player leaving for pro ball is not if he’s ready for the NBA, but is the NBA ready for him. From all I’m hearing he will be a lottery pick, and maybe even in the Top 5. My own sense is that will be too much for him to turn down a second time. It would be fun to be wrong, as much as I’ve enjoyed watching Farouq play, but my guess is he’ll be a two-year guy.

Dan:  Aminu is having a good year, but really seems to have the potential to be great in time.  Do you think there is any real chance he takes one more year in college to devlop his skills?  Thanks, Jim

Brian,
Dino actually changed the whole approach to defense. Before, the Deacons extended their defense into the passing lanes, looking for steals they could turn into fast-break points. Before last season, Dino and his staff researched a number of alternative defensive systems and settled on what is known as the Pack-Line, which is more concerned with building a wall in front of the basket and gambling less. Interestingly, one of the programs they visited while deciding was Washington State, because Tony Bennett’s father, Dick Bennett, was one of the champions of that defense and Tony used it as well. Virginia will play the same style tomorrow.

The Deacs looked good most of the Duke game and absolutely great against the Tar Heels. Dan, how do you see tomorrow’s game against U.Va. going down?

Dan,

What specifically do you think Gaudio has done differently from Coach Prosser to ramp up the WFU defense over the past 2 and 1/2 years?

Thanks,

Brian

It would seem to me that Dino did a great coaching job to get his troops ready to beat the blue goats Wednesday after being creamed Sunday night.
