Bzdelik: We’ll Get the Ball and Go

Monet looks buzzed
But really who’s to say
Let the good times roll
Here in Giverney
Everyone’s here
On this golden day
Hanging out with Claude
And playing Cozmik Croquet

Rico, Moose, T.C. and other assorted Spuds are awaiting me at the first wicket, but I think enough of you guys to let them cool their heels another tick or two while I put up one more post leading into the Sunday Special on Jeff Bzdelik we’ll run in the Journal tomorrow morning.

Princeton, I’m sure you’ve heard Bzdelik say by now, is in New Jersey. He has pushed back hard from the notion that he’ll install an offense at Wake Forest that holds the ball and spreads the court and attempts to compensate for inferior talent. He doesn’t feel his talent at Wake is inferior, just green.

“I’ve got the Boston Celtics scouting report here,’’ Bzdelik said, walking across the room to pick up a bound folder. “They run quick-hitting sets and people might say `It’s the Princeton offense.’ No.

“Well it’s amazing that Ray Allen is running the same stuff, and so is Paul Pierce. And so now I go to Colorado. Last year we averaged more points (74.6) than Wake (72.8). We scored 101 points against Texas Tech in our last home game and beat them. If you’d taken the number of points we scored and put it in the ACC we’d be second (actually third) in scoring in the ACC.  I had the freshman of the year in Alec Burks who led the Big 12 in field-goal percentage (.538) at 6-6. Cory Higgins was (second) in the field-goal percentage (.505).

“We streamlined our offense and we pushed the basketball. I don’t know what else to say. Am I going to run the Princeton stuff here? No I am not.’‘

I’d be remiss (and I never want to be that) if I didn’t thank everyone for the kudos extended to Nate. We’re proud of both Nate and Rebecca. They’ve certainly given us plenty of reason to be.

Your article on Bzdelik was great.  I’m really looking forward to seeing what he can do with Wake’s program.

CD,
Great seeing you after all these years and what can I say but that the croquet was cozmik and I still say it’s degrading for a man to strike the ball on his knees. Catch you at the next one, Mike & CL
