JournalNow.com: Veggin' Out

Contrary to a popular stereotype, vegetarians are not all champions of self-denial, pathetically munching a sprout on the sidelines while watching the omnivores have all the culinary fun. Instead, the vegetarians we know love good food and know where to get it. They aren't about to settle for a bland meal, either at home or at a restaurant.

Death on a Factory Farm

A new HBO documentary, Death on a Factory Farm, will have its premiere at 10 p.m. next Monday, March 16. It follows an undercover investigation by the Humane Farming Association into cruel practices at an industrial-style hog farm.

It appears that this will be a powerful film, judging by the clips now available on YouTube. They are painful to watch; but important: “We must not refuse to see with our eyes what they must endure with their bodies.” — Gretchen Wyler, who started the Genesis Awards to recognize TV shows and films that bring attention to animal issues.

Hopefully the documentary will reach many people, to show the ugly reality behind meat.

If you can’t catch the film next Monday, HBO has scheduled showing through the month of March. For more information, visit the film’s HBO site.
