JournalNow.com: Veggin' Out

Contrary to a popular stereotype, vegetarians are not all champions of self-denial, pathetically munching a sprout on the sidelines while watching the omnivores have all the culinary fun. Instead, the vegetarians we know love good food and know where to get it. They aren't about to settle for a bland meal, either at home or at a restaurant.

Cheap tofu!

Heads-up: Food Lion has Nasoya refrigerated tofu on sale for 99 cents this week. That’s right, 99 cents! They also had already-cubed “super firm” tofu, which I hadn’t seen in stores around here.

I also picked up organic bananas for 79 cents a pound.

Thanks for the tip! Since I like what freezing does to the texture of tofu, that should work out just fine.

I may have commented before about cheap tofu, but here it is again…

Asia Grocery on Peters Creek or the Oriental Grocery on Lockland both sell the huge tubs of fresh tofu. 6lbs for $5. Best deal in town. Of course it might spoil if you don’t eat tofu every meal for the week but you can freeze it in little cubes and thaw it out in the microwave then cook in your favorite dish. It’s the extra firm kind so it works best in meat substitute dishes and even better for grilling (or in your Foreman fat free grillin’ machine - soak in your favorite marinade first for best results).
